Celebrate Healthy Aging Month: Add Life to Years!

September, the month of restart, has not surprisingly been officially chosen internationally as the time of year during which to raise awareness of one of the most important issues of recent decades and those to come: Healthy Aging.

Healthy Aging is not about “adding years to life” butadding life to years”!

It is a very good purpose, however, that we should think about from a young age; it is no exaggeration to say that from birth we should be educated in good habits that should then become constant, daily rules of life and accompany us in the different stages of our existence: healthy and varied diet, regular physical activity, training and then nutrition of the brain through study, reading, socializing, and quality rest, not excluding targeted, high-quality supplementation and other innovative solutions useful for our well-being.

Today we know that chronological age is indeed a fact but that likewise we can intervene on biological age.

By 2050, 1 in 3 people in the world will be over 60 years old. In Italy today, the average age is among the highest in the world (85 years for women, 81 years for men) but if we put our attention on healthy life duration, we fall by several places because little attention has been paid to prevention.

Healthy Aging Month is therefore not only a reminder and individual encouragement in taking care of oneself and one’s health, in becoming “good” at aging but also hides a huge social and economic value, in fact it becomes a present and future priority to avoid its negative impact on the economy, society and health care.

Let's choose good habits and encourage Healthy Aging.

In order to feel at one’s best during this natural journey of life, improving healthspan, that is, the quality of the years lived, drastic choices are not required but an ongoing commitment to good and simple habits that can guard the body’s health over time, limiting damage and suboptimal conditions that would inevitably prevent one from fully experiencing the wonderful and happy journey of Healthy Aging.

80% of the Power of Healthy Aging lies in Lifestyle.

Authoritative international scientific studies show that the ability to age healthily depends fortunately only 20% on our DNA while the remaining 80% is closely influenced and determined by our lifestyle:1 obesity, smoking, alcohol, pollution, drugs, compulsive use of electronic devices accelerate our aging process, thus involving all generations.

How to act?

3 key pillars : 4 fields of action.

Healthy Aging is based on the health of the 3 key pillars: Body, Brain and Skin.

For this holistic integrated approach to the health of the body, the focus is on 4 fields of action of prevention, and all of them can be traced back to our lifestyle:

1. Psycho-physical activity that includes:

  • Regular physical activity. A milestone of healthy aging, numerous scientific researches highlight its benefits with improved quality of life, enjoying a life perspective characterized by reduced health complications, preserved muscle mass and function, balance but most importantly independence.
  • Quality of sleep. Getting enough sleep (at least 8 hours) not only allows us to stay healthy and alert during daily activities, but also affects our mood and mental well-being. Sleeping well is associated with a reduction in the development of insulin resistance, heart disease and obesity. Sleep also influences our creativity and decision-making abilities.
  • Social engagement. An increasingly important component of healthy aging, social interaction not only maintains cognitive function but conveys a sense of belonging/inclusion, purpose and connection to a support network that results in motivation and happiness with improved meaning and quality of life.2

2. Proper and healthy nutrition. Prefer the virtuous Mediterranean dietary pattern with consumption of fresh and seasonal produce, eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains and healthy fats, excellent intake of fish and limited intake of meat. A healthy eating plan also includes staying hydrated, drinking plenty of water to maintain an optimal state of hydration.

3. Food supplementation. Diet alone is often not enough to satisfy all the micronutrients that are essential for our cellular functions and therefore needs targeted quality food supplementation.

4. Care and health of our skin. As the largest organ of our body, skin represents not only a beautiful envelope but the first defense barrier to the outside world. Taking care of it not targeted products that are respectful and attentive to its needs and properties is a priority that should not be underestimated.

As stated many times, it is therefore we, with our habits, who determine the quality and fate of our aging, at any age, but equally important is the awareness of the changes to which Body, Brain and Skin are subjected with age, and this in order to understand and best deal with the signs of aging.

Therefore, HAP Body Brain Skin® has designed and implemented a simple and targeted program (Healthy Aging Program) of product solutions that are effective in supporting and promoting, day by day, the health of the whole body system on this wonderful journey.
